Andrew Gregory, STS, UCL
“Thomas Kuhn On Ancient Science”

Abstract:
Kuhn’s work on the nature and development of science has had a major impact on studies of science since the publication of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions in 1962. In SSR and other works, Kuhn makes some comments on the nature of science in the ancient world. This paper examines the nature of those claims, how scholarship since 1962 relates to those claims and asks how studies of science in the ancient world can be used to investigate the validity of some of Kuhn’s ideas.
